The Magic Flight
Once a hero's journey is complete the hero must return home. The return trip is often much shorter than the trip there. This is because the journey is over and the hero has nothing left to accomplish. This is not always the case, but is most often so. In The Ramayana, Rama needs to get home quickly so that he can meet his brother on the set date. To help him achieve this Vibishana, one of Ravana's brothers, gives Rama the Pushpak Vimana. This is a magical vehicle that can transport them all "back to Ayodhya within any time" that is wished (165). So "Rama ascended this vehicle, taking with him the entire army and all his supporters" and they all flew over the land and returned to Ayodhya (165-167).
